After a very quiet summer, Jog/Shuttle is excited to present its second original release. This is what the duo behind this EP, Background Radiation, have to say:
Background Radiation is a collaborative project between electronic musicians Ludo Maas & Tim Dwyer.
Formed in 2007 they set out to combine their unique styles in hopes of creating a new blend of music, bridging the gap between indietronic and experimental pop. Partly Acoustic, partly electronic, influences range from Bruce Springsteen to The Album Leaf.Ludo Maas (Multi-Panel) has released music on:
Unschooled Records / Starving But Happy / Test TubeTim Dwyer (Full-Source / Off Land) has released music on:
Second Thought Records / Kikapu / Resting Bell / Part2 Records / Jon7 Microlabel / Timetheory / Mz’umf Records
I was expecting something very different because of the Bruce Springsteen reference, but honestly I have never listened to Mr. Springsteen’s oeuvre beyond Born in the USA, so do not jump to false conclusions too quickly.
The False Start EP starts with Real Air To Use, a song Thievery Corporation would be proud of. Second is Living Twice, apparently on the acoustic end of the spectrum but with some sonic surprises. Getting There is a little glitchy folk song, followed by Big Basements which reminds me of Belle and Sebastian and even an odd Pet Shop Boys song which I can’t pinpoint now. But I digress. Grains of Film returns us to a more analog and ambient feeling of times long past (close your eyes for your own instant music video). The much too short EP closes with Rosemary, sort of returning to the reverberating sound of the beginning.
But your associations will vary. Why don’t you just listen for yourself?
